Welcome to Tuesday's Tales! This week's prompt is a picture
prompt of drinks, as seen above. I had only 300 words to work wit this time.
Quite the challenge. Eric is wining and dining his lady love again. What
surprise is up his sleeve this time? Read the story and find out.

I'd never been to a restaurant that was a converted jail.
This was going to be the most unique eating experience ever. A waitress guided
us to our jail cell. It was an old-fashioned gaol – thick bars, confined space,
concrete walls, no window. Instead of institutional green or white the walls
were painted with murals of Mexican landscapes. She pulled aside the barred
door and let us in.
"I've been wanting to come to this place for
years." I said. "This is the best surprise ever."
"I knew it would be. I'm going to order for us, since
the food here is rather unusual. So are the drinks." Eric said.
He placed his order with the waitress, including two yuzu
gimlets. He enjoyed making our little travels exciting adventures full of new
experiences, whether they be a haunted bed and breakfast or a new drink I'd
never tasted before. What did I do to deserve someone a wonderful as Eric? He
chose me, all of me, including my insecurities and bad temper. I didn't have to
be strong and "on" all the time around him. What I liked best was
that he allowed me to relax and put my guard down. He was my soulmate.
The waitress came by with two melon-colored drinks in
martini glasses. Tiny umbrellas and cherries skewered by plastic spears topped
them. I lifted mine as he proposed a toast.
"To us. Forever." He said.
I sipped my drink. "This is the most delicious thing
I've ever tasted."
"Expect the unexpected. Speaking of which, check out
your drink more closely."
I wasn't sure what to think until I saw the flashing
gemstones between two cherries. Eric skewered a ring onto the drink. I put it
on and beamed.
He was indeed my soulmate.
Go Eric ... finally!
ReplyDeleteI love the couple ... and a "jail restaurant"? Brilliant idea. love it.
Woo-hoo! Go Eric! Great excerpt.
ReplyDeleteThanks V. L. Eric will be a regular feature every week. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Iris. That jail restaurant is real. It's called Tio Juan's and it's in Concord, NH. I've never been to it before, but my husband and I are going for the first time on Thursday. I've reserved a jail cell. :)
ReplyDeleteAww...I love Eric! What an incredible guy!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tricia. :D
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a jail cafe and a ring sparkling in the cocktail. Unique! I don't know what yuzu is, but any gimlet has to be delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique idea and I love the ring in the drink too. Lovely 'feel-good' snippet.
ReplyDeleteFlossie, Yuzu is a fruit that tastes like a cross between a lemon, a mandarin orange, and a grapefruit. It's Japanese, I believe. I've had a yuzu gimlet and it was incredible.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry. :) I do enjoy creating little scenarios for Eric and his sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI love how you incorporated the unusual restaurant - and an unusual drink - into the scene. The unexpected garish in the drink was the perfect touch!
ReplyDeletePS. How was the real old jail Mexican restaurant?
ReplyDeletechrysnjay, we go to the jail restaurant tomorrow evening for dinner. I reserved a jail cell. ;) I'll let everyone know how it is on Halloween or over the weekend. The place is also supposed to be haunted by a ghost named "George". I'm looking forward to it. And thank you for liking my story. :)
